How do I…
Edit text that is already in the PDF
With Select chosen, hover over any text in the PDF and it lights up. Double-click to edit that line in place, matched for size, font and colour. Clear the box to remove the line.
Add your own text
Choose Text, then click to place it, or drag out a box first so the words wrap to fit. Double-click it later to change it. Paste an image from the clipboard with Ctrl+V.
Delete text from the PDF
Click a line of the PDF's own text and press Delete. Deleted areas show a red hatch on screen only; the saved file just has clean paper there. Click the hatch and press Delete again to bring the words back.
Sign a document
Choose Sign, draw your signature once, and place it on the page. It is kept on this computer, so next time you pick it from the gallery instead of drawing it again.
Whiteout or Redact?
Whiteout covers things visually, but the words are still in the file and can be copied out. Redact removes them: when you save, that page is rebuilt from a picture of itself, so the hidden words are gone for good.
Reach a mark buried under others
The Layers tab lists everything you have added to the page, newest first. Select, hide, restack (drag a row) or delete anything. Deletions are listed too, quoting the words removed, so you can take one back. Double-click anywhere, even inside a whiteout, to type there.
Scan with your phone
Click Scan and point your phone at the QR code. Photograph pages and tap Send; they arrive straightened and cleaned up. No phone? Use the webcam or photos you already have.
Make a scan searchable
Document → Scanned pages → Read this page. The words are found on your computer and added to the saved PDF as invisible text, so you can search and copy them.
Check spelling
Misspelled words in text you add get a red underline. Document → Text & spelling → Check spelling lists them all with corrections, and you can add words to your own dictionary.
Arrange the window
Drag the dividers beside the page to resize the panels, or keep going past the end to fold one away; double-click a divider to bring it back. Drag the dotted grip on the tool row to put the tools under the page. Reset layout is in Document → Settings.
Your work is kept as you go
A working copy of the open document is stored in this browser on this computer, so a crash or a closed window does not lose it. Reopen KAM PDFs and it offers your last session back. Nothing is uploaded. Turn it off in Document → Settings.
Updates
When you are online, KAM PDFs checks now and then for a newer version and offers it in a green bar. Update now installs it and restarts, keeping a working copy first. Only the version number is ever asked for.
Password-protected PDFs
These cannot be opened yet. Open the file in another viewer and use Print to PDF to make an unlocked copy, then open that.
